Thank you for helping us edit our Transcripts.

Note: There is a short video on editing
    Words_01-1.mp4

You do not have to be a techie. All you need to do is
use a browser to access our museum app, be able to edit
a Word document, and enjoy working with others.

    1. First, use your browser at words.carolinehistory.online
and register as a user with username and email address. and of
course a password. Note: to register, there are 2 checkoff
      boxes that MUST be checked.

    2. Next you will be emailed a confirmation email and be given
      permissions to edit documents.

3 .Our Words app is a menu based app with categories
and topics. As a registered user, you can view certain
categories/ topics. Step 2 is where you tell us the Transcript
you would like to edit. It has a code of T and 3 digits.

    1. Here is the simple part. We will prepare things. You
go to Step 3 and click the 'Link'. The transcript will be
downloaded to your laptop. The file location on your laptop
is up to you of course.

Couple notes to help on this since it may be confusing.
First, you are DOWNLOADING a copy of the file to your laptop.
you will NOT be using the app to do edits. Second,
where files are downloaded on your laptop depends on how
you use your laptop. When it comes time to submit your
updated file, you will use the app to upload.

The firefox/ chrome/ opera/ edge browsers each behave differently
for downloading files. Once downloaded, its up to
you to edit the docx or doc file.

    1. The file name convention is a simple one. Each file has a frozen
prefix portion and free portion. Don't mess with the frozen part.
You will see a _00.docx as part of the file name. The frozen part is the
      T and 3 digit number. ex: T060

    2. If you want to comment or question, use the Reply feature
of the system. We can have a conversation during your editing
      adventure. Reply is your chatbox.

When you are done, simply go to Step 3 to your Topic. And do a Reply AND
use the Upload button. The edited transcript will be uploaded to us.

    And thank you!

A super nice feature in our app is the ' Not Watching' switch. When its
turned on to "Watching", you will get an email if there any changes.
You do NOT have to call or email for attention.

What we are we hoping to end up with?

The transcripts are taken from videos of speeches given at
various events over the years. They are produced by Artificial
Intelligence which picks up all the sounds made during the speech,
There are plenty of "um's" and "uhs" that we want removed, along
    with extraneous punctuation.

Also, sometimes, the speaker makes an obvious error that you may
detect from the general context of the speech. Please fix
those as well. If something appears incorrect, but the fix is
not obvious, leave it as is. Hopefully,a knowledgeable person
will read the results and make further edits.

JOK and others spent lots of years of their lives trying to understand.
We want to help them express their knowledge to a wider audience than
the ones who simply heard words and maybe can view a dusty dvd.
